Blog redesign and future ideas.

A couple of weeks ago, I gave this blog a fairly substantial redesign.

It had previously sat alongside my business website, Keith Burton Photography, but over time it had stopped feeling useful in that form. The blog was still there, but it no longer really reflected everything I wanted to write about.

Redesigned blog that works better on all platforms, from large monitors to mobile screens.

So I decided to broaden it.

What started as a simple tidy-up turned into a much bigger job. I changed the graphics, improved the layout and made sure the site worked much better on mobile devices as well as on a computer screen. I also began organising the posts into separate categories.

At the moment, those categories are Life, Photography and AI.

Photography was the obvious place to start, as much of the existing blog was already centred around it. It remains a very important part of my life, but I also wanted more freedom to write about the things around it: experiences, observations, thoughts and the parts of everyday life that influence how I see and photograph the world.

That is where the Life category came from.

The new broader scope of the blog, while keeping the focus on my photography, also includes the influences on it.

AI may seem like the less obvious choice. But I’ve been using AI for several months now, and much more seriously over the past six to eight weeks. I’ve used it to help me write my journal, capture thoughts before they disappear, explore ideas and reflect on things in more depth.

I don’t see it as something that thinks for me or replaces my own voice. I use it more as a creative partner, a sounding board or sometimes even a kind of muse. I can put an idea into words, have it reflected back to me, question it, reshape it and often understand more clearly what I was trying to say in the first place.

That process has already started to influence what I write here.

I’m interested in writing more about how I use AI in a practical, personal way, rather than getting too caught up in the technology itself. That might include how it helps me with journalling, how I develop ideas, how I use it to question my own thinking and, eventually, how other people might use it in similar ways. I am creating a short explainer video about this, which I will post in a few days.

But I’m also aware that the term ‘AI’ may put some people off.

For some, it may sound too technical. For others, it may come with assumptions about automation, shortcuts or work being produced without much human involvement. That isn’t really what I’m talking about, so I’m wondering whether AI is the right name for the category at all.

Would something like 'Creative Thinking, Ideas and Reflection' or 'Creative Tools' feel more inviting? Or is it better to be clear and call it AI? (As a Yorkshireman, I like to call a spade a spade – so if it's AI, I call it AI.)

This is where I’d really value your thoughts.

Is there anything missing? Are there subjects you would be interested in reading more about?

Most of all, does the idea of posts about how I use AI interest you, or does the word itself make you less likely to read them? Would a few examples of productive use of AI be something you would like to see, along with a few 'tricks and tools' you can use yourself to save time?

I’d be interested to know what kinds of posts would be most useful. Would you prefer personal examples, practical guides, reflections on what has and hasn’t worked, or ideas you could try for yourself?

The blog is still evolving, and I see that as a good thing. I don’t want it to feel fixed or overly planned. I want it to grow naturally around the things I’m exploring, while still being useful and interesting to the people reading it.
